4 Style Resolutions To Keep in 2022

4 Style Resolutions To Keep in 2022

It takes less than two weeks into January for most of us to break our New Year’s resolutions. No, seriously.

Research by fitness tracker and social network, Strava, found that January 12 is the most likely date you’ll break your (no doubt) well-intentioned resolution.

But it’s not over. Whether your big health/travel/personal resolution has already fallen by the wayside, we’ve rounded up the 4 style resolutions you will be able to keep in 2022 - easy.

1. Bye bye impulse shopping. One easy way to avoid filling your wardrobe with pieces you’ll never wear is to avoid impulse shopping. Like avoiding going to the supermarket when you’re hungry, pay close attention to the times you purchase items you don’t really need. While everything can seem appealing when you’re online shopping late at night with a glass of wine in hand, instead try shopping in considered fashion.

Ask yourself: can I make at least three outfits with this item? Is this unique and value-adding or do I already have four of the same? Add to your cart and if you’re still thinking about it 12/24/36 hours later, then you can buy it. Alternatively, keep a running list in your phone of clothing items you identify you actually need and only buy from the list, rather than just anything that catches your eye.

2. Buy less, buy better. Buying cheap ends up being false economy if it falls apart or is misshapen after three wears. Instead, invest in high quality, well-made pieces you’ll get years of wear out of. It might mean fewer purchases and a smaller wardrobe, but trust us: getting dressed every morning will be 10 times easier.

3. Forget new and embrace ‘new to you’. Of course, the feeling of brand new is great. But giving something a second home and a second life is even better.  And the thrill of finding a one-of-a-kind pre-loved designer piece you’ve been searching for? Well, that really is the best. That’s why we’re making it easier than ever to both shop and sell extraordinary fashion and accessories with After Eight’s new pre-loved platform. (Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for more details of the official launch.).

Otherwise, renting clothes from rental platforms such as All The Dresses is a great option for occasionwear, or even hold clothing swaps or trades with your friends and family for exciting new pieces without the price tag.

4. Know your impact. Let’s get real: There’s no longer any excuse not to know the impact our shopping and fashion habits have on the environment and community. Australia is actually the second highest consumer of textiles in the world, after the US. We’re each responsible for an average of 27 kilograms of new clothing and disposing of an average of 23 kgs into landfill each year.

So take some time to learn more about where your clothes from, how they’re made, who made them, and if you are doing a wardrobe clearout, how you can get rid of unwanted clothes responsibly. (See Style Resolution #3!)

At After Eight, we make it easier the ever to know your style impact by scouring the globe to carefully curate the best of local and international designers who create with sustainability in mind. You can shop easy knowing you’re supporting slow fashion and its makers fairly, without compromising on style.
